Services and events will take place across the Diocese this weekend to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Saturday 11 November | Durham Cathedral 7.30pm | Festival of Remembrance
This year's Festival of Remembrance commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War with an emotional mix of spoken words, music and the silent poppy drop. The festival will be supported by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and the Pipes and Drums of 102 Battalion REME.
Saturday 11 November | St. Mary's Church, Norton 10.40am
An Armistice Day service including an Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths.
Sunday 12 November | Durham Cathedral 10:15am | Remembrance Sunday Service
This service remembers those who have given their lives in service of their country, and those serving who put their lives at risk today, through spoken word and music from the Cathedral Choir. The Dean of Durham, the Very Revd Dr Philip Plyming, will be preaching this service.
Sunday 12 November | Egglescliffe Parish Church 10am | Remembrance Sunday Service & Procession
A service will be held at Egglescliffe Parish Church (St John the Baptist) on Butts Lane at 10am, followed by a procession to Egglescliffe War Memorial at 10.45am.
Sunday 12 November | Stockton Parish Church 9.30am | Remembrance Sunday Service
Contemporary Sunday Service at 9.30am with a remembrance theme, ending with the Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph from 10.45am onwards.#
Sunday 12 November | St. Cuthbert's Peterlee 10am | Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade
Peterlee Remembrance Parade & Service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, with people meeting at Peterlee Central Club, Surtees Road, at 10am if participating in the Parade to St. Cuthbert's Church, Peterlee. The parade will leave at 10.30am, followed by a service.
Sunday 12 November | St. Nicholas Dunston 10am | Remembrance Sunday Service
Assemble at St Nicholas Church at 10am for a service followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Dunston at 11am. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Church Hall.
Sunday 12 November | St. Patricks High Spen 9am | Remembrance Sunday Communion Service
A Communion Service will begin at St Patrick@s Church at 9am. It will move from the church to the War Memorial for an Act of Remembrance which will begin at 10am.
Sunday 12 November | Holy Cross Ryton 10am | Remembrace Sunday Communion Service
Parish Communion will be held at Holy Cross at 10am. This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial at 11am. The Memorial is a short walk from Holy Cross Church to Station Bank.
Sunday 12 November | Holy Trinity Swalwell 9am | Remembrance Sunday Service
There will be a service at the Holy Trinity Church, Hexham Old Road followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at 10am.
Sunday 12 November | St. Paul's Church Winlaton 9.45am | Remembrance Sunday Communion Service
A Service of Holy Communion will take place at St Paul's Church followed by a short wreath-laying service and Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.45am.
Sunday 12 November | St. Mary's Church Whickham 10.15am | Remebrance Sunday Service
Assemble at the Square, Front Street Whickham at 10.15am and proceed to the War Memorial where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 10.45am. This will be followed by a service in St Mary's Church, Whickham.
Sunday 12 November | St. Cuthbert's Church Marley Hill 10.15am | Remebrance Sunday Service
Assemble at St Cuthbert's Church, Marley Hill for a Remembrance Service combined with the Methodists at 10.15am for an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying.
Sunday 12 November | St. John the Baptist Church, Greatham, Hartlepool, 9:30am | Remembrance Sunday Service
9.30am Communion with tea and coffee break after before 11am Cenotaph service.
