As world leaders meet in Glasgow for COP26, Durham churches will come together this weekend to rally support for climate change awareness by hosting a number of eco events.
All Saints, Newton Hall and St Nic’s Durham will host a day full of fun and learning, with the aim not only to inspire and educate the public on the worries of climate change, but also provide educational activities for the whole family to enjoy.
All Saints, Newton Hall has organised a ‘Family Eco-Fair’, Saturday 6 November, 10am – 3pm. It will be held on church grounds.
The Eco-Fair will consist of 24 stalls in total, with a range of different things to enjoy. They’ll be serving delicious home-made vegan treats.
There will even be live hedgehogs, and two alpacas are set to be the stars of the show. The alpacas are coming to Durham from their farm near Stanley.
There are a number of organisations hosting informative talks during the day, including but not limited to; Woodshed Workshop, The Wildlife Trust, Haystax, Breathing Space and the RPSB.
The Revd Caroline Dick, Minister for All Saints and Team Rector for Durham North Team of Churches, said: “This event is running during the week of COP26 when world leaders are together discussing climate change and the need to take action now to protect our planet for future generations. Our Eco-Fair is an opportunity for people locally to come together and learn more about ways we can help protect our environment, while at the same time having great fun.”
Their event is free to attend with free-parking nearby. To learn more, please visit their Facebook page.
On Saturday, Revd Dick will also be speaking at a ‘Global Day of Action’ rally, organised by the City of Durham Parish Council and Durham Climate Action, taking place in Durham City’s Marketplace with the hope of uniting different climate activists and groups under one common goal.

At St Nic’s Durham, a ‘Climate Action Fair’ will be held at the church with stalls run by local sustainable organisations promoting a variety of ways to help protect the environment, including how to live a sustainable lifestyle. There will also a series of children’s events inside the church. The fair runs on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
