This Advent and Christmas, there are a number of services and resources available for you and your church.
You can decorate your social media and website using free social media templates, or view the Church of Englands' Advent and Christmas 2021 resources for inspiration.
There are a number of national Christmas services happening this December, with a full list available here.
If your church has a A Church Near You editor, you can easily add events and services to your page! You can learn more here.
As well as promoting services, A Church Near You editors can also access the Resource Hub, which will provide a range of free resources, such as customisable videos, social media graphics and approaches to online giving.
Downloadable hymns are also available on the Hub for all Church of England churches to use for free. They will be sharing music from across the traditions that churches can use as part of online and/or in-person services and events.
Advent and Christmas events happening across our diocese include;
The Parish of Jarrow and Simonside.
On Sunday 19 December there will be an All Age ‘Christingle Service’ at 4pm in St John the Baptist's Church, Nairn Street.
On Christmas Eve there is a choice of two Crib Services for all the family at 4pm at St Peter's Church and at St Simon's Church, Wenlock Road, Simonside.
Later on there is a choice of three Services with Holy Eucharist; 8pm at St Peter's, 8pm at St John the Baptist's or 11.30pm Midnight Mass at St Paul's Church, Church Bank.
On Christmas Day, a 10am Holy Eucharist service will take part at St Peter’s Church.
Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral will host a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, with information available here. Prior to its Christmas Eve Midnight Eucharist, with booking information here.
Christmas Day will see a number of services grace Durham Cathedral, including early Holy Communion and Matins, a Sung Eucharist and an Evensong. You can learn more here.
