The Acting Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Sarah Clark, is pleased to announce that the following people have been appointed as Honorary Canons of Durham Cathedral.
Non-Residentiary Canons
The Revd Danie Lindley – Rector of Gateshead Fell and Windy Nook
The Revd Kyle McNeil – Vicar of Horden and Blackhall and Area Dean of Easington
Lay Canon
James Ramsbotham CBE DL– Chair of Newcastle Building Society
Ecumenical Canons
The Revd Dr Justin Mihoc – Parish Priest of the Orthodox Parish of St Cuthbert and St Bede Durham
Dr Ruth Perrin – Associate Minister of King’s Church Durham and Research Fellow of St John’s College, Durham University
The Venerable Katherine Bagnall is also being installed as a Supernumerary Canon in her new role as Archdeacon of Sunderland.
Bishop Sarah said: “I’m delighted that James, Justin, Ruth, Danie, and Kyle have agreed to be our new Honorary Canons and I look forward to all that they will bring both to the life of our Cathedral and the wider diocese.”
The Dean of Durham, the Very Reverend Dr Philip Plyming said: “The College of Canons is an important way in which the Cathedral is connected to the wider Diocese and the region. I am delighted that the new Canons will be adding their diverse wisdom and experience to the College and helping us move forward in our Vision 2033 to offer all people in our area and beyond the opportunity to encounter God and know God’s love in Jesus Christ.”
The new Canons will be installed at a special service of Choral Evensong at Durham Cathedral on 5 October at 3.30pm. All are welcome and tickets are not required.
