An exciting new initiative is set to get underway in Sunderland after the Diocese of Durham teamed up with Church Army - the Church of England’s largest mission community.
The Sunderland Centre for Mission will be a collaborative project serving the parishes of Bishopwearmouth St Mary Magdalene, The Good Shepherd and Pallion St Luke.
Father Richard Brown and lay worker Steve Grasham have been appointed to develop the Centre for Mission, which will build relationships, support people living in challenging circumstances and grow creative, accessible church communities.
The pair were licensed by the Bishop of Durham, the Rt Revd Paul Butler in a special service on Wednesday, 7 February at Auckland Castle.
Later the same day, a Service of Commission and Welcome was held in the community hall at St Mary Magdalene’s, Millfield. It was led by the Bishop of Jarrow, the Rt Revd Sarah Clark, and the Bishop of Beverley, the Rt Revd Stephen Race.
