St. Alban’s, Windy Nook recently had an innovative idea to engage with their families – a Messy Church Escape Room.
Based on Peter’s escape from prison, families worked together to explore the church with codes, ciphers and clues to solve. They were also able to highlight the fact that sadly many across the world are still imprisoned for their faith today.
“It was an event for the whole family,” said the Revd Danie Lindley. “We even had a team of parents from two families who competed against their children.”
The event was aimed at reaching older children nearing the end of their time at Messy Church who have been invited to transition to the church’s youth group.
Overall, the escape room was a huge success and St. Alban’s are already starting to think about organising another one next year.
The organisers are more than happy to share their resources with other churches so that they can be adapted for other events. If you’d like to know more, please contact revdanielindley@gmail.com .
