The LEGO® version of Durham Cathedral is being re-built and will go back on display inside the Durham Cathedral Museum.
After a few years in storage, the structure will be housed in a new location in the Monks’ Dormitory of the Durham Cathedral Museum.
The 3.84-metre high model is currently being re-built by a team of volunteers with the aim of completing it in time for February half term.
Durham Cathedral in LEGO®, was an ambitious fundraising project from 2013-16 which saw the cathedral recreated in LEGO® bricks. The imaginative fundraising initiative was first developed to support the development of the museum, which was named Open Treasure at the time.
The model was originally built by members of the public, with each brick representing a £1 donation and after the first brick was laid on 11 July 2013, over 300,000 bricks were added over the next three years.
In preparation for re-launching Durham Cathedral in LEGO®, the Cathedral is looking for stories and memories from people who were part of the original build.
