Interactive Christmas Journey hits Darlington schools for second year

800 Y2 pupils from 16 different schools across Darlington have been invited to experience a multi-sensory telling of the ‘Christmas Story’, free of charge.

The Christmas Journey in Darlington, organised by Revd Lissa Scott of St Matthew and St Lukes, Darlington, entails children visiting interactive scenes to hear about God’s present to us and how things had gone wrong, leading to the birth of Jesus.

Locations visited include;

  • Mary in Nazareth, as the Angel Gabriel visits her
  • Hillside outside Bethlehem to dress as shepherds and hear Gabriel’s message
  • The stable to see baby Jesus and hear the animals (puppets) talk about their disturbed night and what happened
  • The wise men’s palace to hear about their gifts and experience (some children dress as wise men)

Feedback forms from previous years quote the impact of the experience, saying: “You gave all those children the opportunity to experience the Christmas story in a way they will remember, perhaps forever.”

Another states: “The wow factor that the children got from meeting all the different characters could not be achieved in the classroom. The children were fully immersed in the experience.”

The Christmas Journey is running for eight days this year, and relies entirely on donations and volunteers. To learn more about the event, or to get involved, please contact Revd Lissa Scott at lissalife9@gmail.com
