Celebrations as long-serving organist marks 50 years

Ken Elsdon has been organist at All Saints Church in Penshaw since 1974, having previously also served as choirmaster at the church.

On Sunday evening a special service was held to mark Ken’s 50 years as organist. The service was led by the Revd Catherine Walton and the Archdeacon of Sunderland, the Venerable Bob Cooper preached.

During the service, Ken was presented with a card, cake and flowers for his wife. The service included hymns such as ‘To God be the Glory’ and ‘Angel Voices Ever Singing’, chosen of course by Ken. Ken has no plans to give up playing and age is certainly not currently a limiting factor!
