The Diocese of Durham has a longstanding link with Lesotho in Southern Africa and Bishop Sarah is delighted to have been able to visit this summer.
During the visit, Bishop Sarah led a service at St. John’s in Maseru. There is much history at St. John’s that brings the British and Basotho people together in faith.
Bishop Sarah also joined Bishop Kgabe for a service at St. Saviour’s before the launch of Leribe Tourism with MP Motlatsi Maqelepo. Leribe is where the long-standing friendship between Basotho and the British people really began to flourish.
Bishop Sarah, accompanied by Harry MacDonald (British High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho), featured on LTV’s Thahameso programme, discussing the friendship between the British and Basotho as well as faith and their hopes for the future.
Next, Bishop Sarah visited Thaba Bosiu where they visited the new Holy Cross Church in its beautiful location.
The following day was spent at Ha Mahatlane where the Durham-Lesotho link has worked to support child-headed households. It was great to be able to meet some of the young people and guardians supported by this project to develop the skills they need to support themselves.
In Matsieng, Bishop Sarah was honoured to meet with His Majesty King Letsie III, discussing the past, present and future of the friendships formed between our two kingdoms.
Bishop Sarah met with Deepak Bhaskaran from Unicef Lesotho.
Joining members of NGOs for a roundtable discussion, Bishop Sarah shared ideas on supporting children, tackling gender-based violence, creating opportunities for young people and inclusion for those with disabilities.
Finally, a day at the Lesotho-Durham Link centre for workshops on health, Bible study and water skills.
