Two C of E Schools from the Sunderland area will be taking part in a city-wide Big Festive Sing.
Around 10,000 students across the city are expected to tune in on Wednesday 15 December as Sunderland Empire and Sunderland Music Hub join together to host a Christmas sing-along.
The schools taking part are Benedict Biscop CE Academy and St Paul’s CE Primary School, in Ryhope.
The Big Festive Sing promises beloved Christmas songs, as well as songs from many festive films, such as the Polar Express.
The students will be taking part from the comfort of their classrooms, with the event being livestreamed via YouTube from Sunderland Music Hub.
The event aims to promote music development in children, providing digital music packs, sheet music and workshops to improve their musical education.
According to the Sunderland Echo Lizzie Nixon, Music Hub Manager, said: “After working with Sunderland Empire on a number of successful Big Sings each summer, we felt this year was the perfect time to deliver a festive version of the event.
“Singing is a great way to develop relationships with peers, build confidence, support communication skills and to develop musically. These are all important aspects for development in our children, especially after a trying 18 months due to Covid.”
Northern Saints CE (VA) Primary School, while not a member of the Sunderland Music Hub, will be sharing a number of singing performances with their parents online, and have appointed a new music lead in school.
