The Bishop of Durham is among almost 1,000 people who have visited this year’s Consett Christmas Tree Festival so far.
The second annual event, at Christ Church, took place over three days last weekend, and again on Saturday, 9 December.
The Rt Revd Paul Butler attended last Sunday (3 December), when he led the Advent Eucharist service. He was impressed at a showing of close to 50 sparkling Christmas trees, all creatively designed by people in the community.
The festival has included a wide range of attractions. On Saturday (9December), which will be the concluding day, there will be another packed schedule, which will coincide with the switching on of Consett’s Christmas tree lights on Main Street at 6pm, preceded by music and other attractions from 4pm onwards.
At the church, there will be a community sing-a-long with Red Dust Choir performing amongst the trees from 6.30pm. There will be festive refreshments, including mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate.
Other activities at the church, which will be open from 3pm to 8pm, will include a raffle, a children’s craft table, a Christmas story hunt, an elf trail, and a prayer station.
Judging of the Christmas trees took place last weekend by TV personalities Tommy Cannon and Crissy Rock.
Organisers thanked everyone who has contributed to what has been a successful festival so far, and are looking forward to welcoming more people on Saturday.
