Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD)

The primary aim of Continuing Ministerial Development is to engender a culture of lifelong learning. The Director of Ministry administers the CMD budget, and arranges a CMD programme of opportunities for day or residential learning.

If you would like to book for one of our CMD events please email jo[email protected]

  1. Basic Clergy Development Grants. These are available to help clergy undertake a specific course, event, retreat or development project. There is a form for this and a presumption that an application would be successful. The basic grant is set at £150 per year. It is not possible to carry funds forward from year to year.  Curates are eligible for Basic Grants subject to the clear written support of their Training Incumbent and the Director of IME 4-7. Download the Basic Grant Application Form.
  2. Special Clergy Development Grants. Download CMD Grants Advice for Clergy 2017

Further Degrees

Clergy are encouraged to consider whether at some stage during their ordained ministry an accredited course of study might be appropriate. Clergy who enrol for further degrees may apply for a bursary to support their studies which will be considered by the Grants Panel.  It is wise to seek the advice and support of the Director of IME 4-7 or the Bishop of Jarrow at an early stage in exploring this possibility.

As part of the CMD provision the diocese offers a limited number of sabbaticals for clergy each year.  If you are interested in applying for a sabbatical you should read the full sabbatical policy and process document and contact Mrs Joyce Parker who will initiate the application process for you.  Email: [email protected] or Tel: 0191 3746004 Below you will find links and downloads which we hope will be a useful resource.
