Instructions and resources for churches
This page will be regularly updated as more information is made available by the National Church.
Services of Commemoration
If you are planning a Service of Commemoration, Digital versions of special Forms of Service booklets are available to download from Cambridge University Press. Please note that Services of Commemoration may be held before the Funeral and during the seven days after the Funeral but not on the day of the Funeral.
Screening the Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
You are allowed to screen the BBC live coverage of The Queen’s funeral on a TV, screen or using a projection system in a community building such as a church or hall. You do not need a TV License to do this but do check if you need a PRS license. Entry must be free and coverage must be shown live not as a recording. More information can be found on the BBC website.
Official Prayers and Liturgy
The official prayer, liturgy, and other resources are now also available on the Church of England website
Bell-Ringing, Flags and Books of Condolence
Parish churches, chapels and cathedrals are being encouraged to toll their bells and open for prayer or special services at 12pm Friday. More information, including offical guidance on bell-ringing, here. More detailed guidance on bell-ringing will be available from the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR).
Meanwhile parishes with flagpoles are advised to fly flags to be flown at half-mast until the day after the funeral of Her Late Majesty, other than for a period following the proclamation of the new King. More detailed guidance is available from the Flag Institute. General guidance on flags for churches can be found here.
The National Education Team with support from Dioceses has created and published a full set of resources to support our schools in this difficult time. These can be found here:
