The weekend of the 25th – 27th September will forever go down in history for the Oridantions of Priests and Deacons in the Church of England with a variety of Lockdown restrictions to the gathering, liturgy and process.

But in the Diocese of Durham, the Lockdown Ordinations were a massive success with more people than ever watching the ordination services online as well as limited numbers attending in person. Across five services in Sunderland, Barnard Castle and Durham, Priest and Deacons were Ordained in facemasks and with strict social distancing.

Whilst the numbers attending the services were restricted to keep within the current legal restrictions, online 100’s watched every service all of which were streamed on various social media platforms. Bishop Paul was able to address a watching audience and make them feel part of the service by inviting them to take part by posting comments and responding to the service as they progressed.

In total nearly 1000 people watched the services live with many thousands of replays going on after the services.

This may be difficult times to meet in person. but for the church in the Diocese of Durham, the online community continues to grow.

The services can be watched again on social media.

Pictures from the services can be viewed and purchased here
