Hetton-Lyons with Eppleton: Priest in Charge

The parish encompasses the town of Hetton and the three villages of Easington Lane, Moorsley and Eppleton within the Sunderland coalfield. The population is around 14,000, with some significant deprivation, not least a quarter of children living in poverty. We engage in mission in various ways, through our Faith in the Community Project, Hetton New Dawn, and Messy Church, and we seek a parish priest to help us in particular ways:

  • Children and Young People.
To grow our engagement with schools, families and children; to develop Messy Church and After School Club and seek further opportunities for intergenerational worship.
  • Community
To build on the Hetton New Dawn Faith in the Community Project both as a way of caring for those in need and growing the Church.
  • Helping the people to be the Church effectively
To use the gifts of all connected with the Church; to grow in faith; to train and support people in various roles and in Christian living within the community.
