City Centre Church to offer lunchtime ‘Shoppers Carols’ in build up to Christmas

St Nics Church in Durham’s Market Place is to offer busy shoppers and retail workers an opportunity to join in carol services on Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 of December ahead of Christmas day.

The short 30-minute service will offer those coming in to the city centre an opportunity to sing Christmas carol favourites as they shop and prepare for Christmas. All services will be Covid secure with those attending being asked to sanitise, appropriately distance and sing behind masks. Covid Passports will not be required.

The carol services will offer the opportunity to sing familiar hymns such as ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry gentlemen’, ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’.

The Vicar of St Nics Durham, Reverend Arun Arora said: “In the midst of busy and pressured lives and the general concerns about Covid, these services offer an opportunity for people to take a break, to remember the ‘reason for the season’ and to sing familiar carols safely in a welcoming environment.”
