A short newsreel is released today (October 1st) features The Right Revd Paul Butler discussing and reflecting on his announcement as the Bishop of Durham Designate. In an informal conversation with The Right Revd Mark Bryant – Bishop of Jarrow, Bishop Paul reflects on the announcement day (12th Sept), the locations and the people they met during a packed day of visits across the diocese. Bishop Paul said: “I was amazed at the warm welcome that we received everywhere that we visited. The interest shown by people of the diocese, communities across Durham and the media was quite overwhelming. Although we won’t be here in Durham until the new year – I can’t wait to get started, it’s all very exciting.” In the newsreel, Bishop Paul outlines how the days visit program highlighted clear priorities identified by the Diocese and how some of his experience, gifts and passion can be used to help to achieve: a commitment to children and young people, tackling poverty and church growth. The discussion was filmed at the end of the announcement day on September 12 at St Mary’s Church Barnard Castle.
