Bishop Paul Takes Oath At Buckingham Palace

The Right Revd Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham has today (Tuesday 11th February 2014) taken an oath acknowledging Her Majesty The Queen as Sovereign and Supreme Governor (called homage).

Bishop Paul, made the short visit to Buckingham Palace this afternoon in a break period from the debate on Ordination of Women to the Episcopate at the Church of England’s general synod meeting happening this week in London. The oath signifies the last formal step on the journey of becoming Bishop of Durham. Bishop Paul will have his Inauguration of Public Ministry (Enthronement) in Durham Cathedral on the 22nd February 2014 at a public service of welcome to the Diocese. In addition Bishop Paul will also take part in the ancient Falchion Ceremony on Croft Bridge, Darlington on Friday 21st February.
