This is an exciting new role, to help our team extend our delivery of services to our clients in the centre of Houghton le Spring.   Space4, situated underneath the Houghton Library, is a constituted community group under the overall management of the Parochial Church Council of St Michael & All Angels Church, Houghton-le-Spring.   We serve the community of Houghton-le-Spring and surrounding areas, mainly through our drop-in space, working particularly with people who are vulnerable, elderly, disabled, socially isolated, have mental health issues or caring responsibilities.  We bring people together in a safe, accepting and non-judgemental space where they can be themselves, whatever their stories or situations.  We run various groups and activities across the week appealing to a range of individuals including a men’s group, women’s group and a LGBT+ group.  We encourage people, through everyday conversation and participation in events and activities, to create a sense of community, empowering them to better self-awareness, improve self-esteem and the develop their ability to make better life choices.  Through networks and partnerships such as the Coalfields Voluntary Community Sector Network, we can support vulnerable people and help them to access the necessary support.

On average, we have a daily attendance of 25 (up to 40 on busy days), representing a total of 50-100 individuals per week.  Over the past four years we have seen an increase in footfall of over 40% and we are now seeking to expand our team to support the future growth and development of our service. After consultation with service users and other stakeholders, we are now looking for an Assistant Manager.

We are looking for an energetic, caring, accepting person who will help us develop a more strategic and sustainable funding stream and improve volunteer management and recruitment.  We are looking for someone who values people and will work with us to ensure the quality of our delivery is maintained and help us meet our delivery needs.  Our development plan includes a plan to develop our social prescribing offer and we are looking to the post holder who can support this and ensure that we evidence our impact properly (training to be provided), not just by measuring numbers but in documenting personal stories to understand the impact the project is having.  We value experience and a track record of engaging with people in a caring, accepting and supportive way just as much as qualifications.  We would encourage applications from anyone who feels that they can demonstrate this from their past roles.
