It is with deep sadness that Bishop Paul wishes to inform you that the Revd Margaret Parker (93) died on Saturday 6th June 2020.

Margaret was a well-loved member of the life of the Church in the Northeast having been one of the first group of female priest to be ordained in Durham.

Bishop Paul was given the sad news by The Revd Canon Rosalind Brown who said: “Margaret was well-known in this diocese, having been a deaconess, deacon and then one of the first female priests to be ordained. Her active ministry in the church covers many decades. She was a Minor Canon at the Cathedral and the first woman to preside at the Eucharist in the Cathedral.”

Margaret died in St Aidan’s Care Home in Framwellgate Moor where she had been a resident for several years. Margaret’s only relative was her cousin Ann Baldock.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

A memorial service for Margaret will be held once COVID-19 restrictions allow.

Please hold Ann and all those who knew Margaret in your prayers.
