Belmont is a popular residential parish on the outskirts of the university city of Durham with a well-equipped church and hall, St Mary Magdalene; Pittington is a village nearby with a beautiful and historic church building, St Lawrence. They are seeking someone rooted in prayer and the Eucharist who will help people experience God’s love, connect the Bible with modern life, explore different forms of worship, develop the gifts of lay people, and build on excellent schools work. They would value a prayerful risk-taker, prepared to help them step out in faith.
The previous priest was also Area Dean of Durham and if a candidate has the necessary skills the Bishop is minded to appoint the next Priest in Charge as Area Dean. All our deaneries are revising their deanery plans; Durham needs clear strategic thought and an Area Dean who can share leadership in an inspiring and missional way.
